Megavalanche Race 2024! It's Chaos Out There!
The Megavalanche always delivers an eventful race, This is what it looked like starting from row G in the main race.
The Megavalanche 2024 started from lower down due to weather conditions which meant they started the race in 2 separate waves. Luckily for me that put me on the front row of wave 2!
Watch this race run to see how I try to survive this brutal race!

An emotional roller coaster. Well done man... what tyre choice did you go for?
😁👍🏻
Total slopfest!!! 2024 appears to have been the definition of minging 😂
That shows how difficult this race is.. as we look at Kilian and other top riders videos and think that's rally easy to go at such an incredible pace.
Nice one ! Very smooth. Looks like the conditions suited you.
Nice work Jamie, look absolutely brutal!!!
Very few parts of that looked enjoyable...
there all the time🥳
nice
Excellent video ... thanks for the review
You're welcome, thanks
Whats the traffic like in peak season? heading down next week. Also, whats the trail etiquette like? Do slower riders move over for you?
It can get busy, i'm not going to lie. My advise would be to get out there first thing and last thing for the emptiest trails. Try and time your riding so you are out on the trails whilst others are at lunch. This will really help you get a few extra laps in without big queues! Have a great trip!
whats the speed for enter the dragon like?
slow pedal in, once you're over the first double do not touch your brakes!
@@MtbTrailHub and no pedalling after the double as well?
You gave up like 4 spots on that stupid crash. Fun.
I know, It was heart braking......couldn't believe what was happening when the front started to wash!
Well done m8, ul with the fall nr the bottom 👍🤘👌
Thanks mate, what could have been.....next time were going for a top 10 in quali!
Great effort Jamie. Well done mate better you than me.
Cheers John, I went too hard trying to pedal past the guy on the flat and my legs blew up. Also felt pretty beaten from the OTB in the snow! haha No excuses next time! haha
Avalanche, the golfie?
You know it!! what a ride!
Interesting view . . . of the front of your helmet.
it barely takes up any of the shot lmao, what are you even complaining about? maybe focus on the other 90% of the screen, Karen
haha, nothing at all happening beyond the helmet......
Haha brilliant!
Really unlucky with that pedal clip but still looked like you did well!! Just to confirm though, what is the inside of a straight line?
I know right! haha made me laugh watching it back
Congratulations Jamie good job done, the best part of the video. Inside, inside!! Exactly there is no inside !! Or left or right 🤣🤣🤣 good job !! 👏
Haha, Cheers tomek! I had Zero energy but I could still muster a few words to ask which side! haha
Thought I saw you around town! Best of luck for whatever race you quailed for! 🤘
Thanks, yeah it was a great week! hope you had a good time too!
@@MtbTrailHubmanaged to break my foot in my quali run, but still quailed for the front end of challenger…could have been better, but could have been much worse. I’m happy😂
Haha fair play. I must say though, to me, this seems like one of the most unenjoyable things you could do on an mtb.
Cant say that till youve done it mate. So difficult but incredibly fun
All the way to the bottom. And then when you've crossed the tape......it's the best thing you've ever done and you wanna go again.
It does feel a little like that on the morning of the race, after the race it becomes the best thing you could do on a bike.........If you finish! haha
It's a love hate thing......that beer at the bottom never tasted soo good!
@@MtbTrailHub yeah managed to finish but had to do it chainkess after derailleur snapped on the snow
smashed it mate 💥
Cheers Dazza!
You can also explain the qualification race is actually shorter but more technical than the main race
It certainly is!
that was a awesome run mate. made me slightly more nervous now lol
strange to review without riding. the trail is open now, that road gap drop is bloody slow, you need to pedal like mad, many people coming short
I would have ridden it if I could......
This is my local on my doorstep and it's a great loop on an e-bike when you don't have all day. Like it's been stated it's not for the shredders. I'm not a shredder so I get everything I need from this trail, plus some lovely scenery.
Well said, ebike is the way!
Quite windy on that part of the mountain most days sadly, but to the top lads riding REDs in France it's just extra spice :)
If Chili Con Carne is Red, I'd hate to see what a black flow trail at Super M would be like... Oh wait there is one, Hattock and its jumps are blue-ish vs this trail. Oh well, a laissez-fair attitude to everything is what makes France special.
haha
Yes couldn't agree more, that's why we love France! It's a great trail none the less with some good progression. Hopefully it doesn't get over run by people rolling the features top to bottom and killing the speed for people sending the jumps.
What would you recommend for a first timer in Morzine, rode Dyfi etc and go to Morzine end of the month!
First and more important is to know you and to know your skills on the bike. Super Morzine is good to get the flow started, then go to Serraseux or Chatel... All the Green/Blue trails are pretty nice to get the hang of the bike and the riding experience that you need to tackle the red/black lines. I'll be there in a couple of weeks for the 3 consecutive year, it's now like a pilgramage to all my bike buddies to go there every summer. And on top of hit, have fun riding your bike.
Well said
If you've done dyfi then you should be pretty prepared for anything the PDS throughs at you. Check out this video which is a big ride out only using the greens and blues......ruclips.net/video/b9WCxb2gLp0/видео.htmlsi=t15UHx9IPy01E40c
Great video, I am planning to do this in August. I think I have a good idea of how to get there now thanks to this video. But how do you get back to Morzine from there?
Thanks for tuning in! The one piece of key information regarding coming back from this route is to make sure you get to the top of the Mossette suisse lift. From the top of there you are still a long way from home but it's possible to ride back without using lifts. It's not a complicated route but until you've done it it will be confusing. The easiest way to explain it would be to exit the Mossette suisse lift and follow the red PDS signs back to Lindarets. For directions - Come off of the lift and join the fire road as it bears to the left. Follow it down the hill and take the next left rather than carrying on towards the Suisse national trail. Follow the red signs from here and peel left again on the XC trail. Once you drop back towards Lindarets just stay on the undulating traverse and it will take you back to Lindarets valley floor. Be sure to do a few laps of the Crossettes chairlift as there is an amazing red run underneath which brings you back directly to the bottom of the chairlift. I'd advise not to go head to this area if storms are predicted as they can close the lifts. Rain is ok, thunder and lightning..... very frightning! haha
@@MtbTrailHub Thanks for the reply!
Red run!!!!. More green and blue runs are needed so that we can all get out on the trails.
Theres plenty of Blues up in Super Morzine.....and mellow reds
or you could just get better at mounatin biking haha
I have heard its not open till the 14th of July which will be annoying as im there in 10 days.
It was open today! You’re in luck!
@MtbTrailHub That's what we like to hear, cheers mate 🤟
@@park_rat_matt Enjoy!!
Hi Jamie - I am going out next week for the Pass Portes 2024 and wondered is the Swiss National part of the the Pass Portes Route or is it separate?
Nice! The swiss national trail is not part of the PDS loop however you will ride very close to the entrance to it. If you were really keen and making good time you could drop in for a quick lap and then rejoin the loop. It's possible..... just depends if you are making good time. Enjoy!
I mean that drop is way more than I'd even contemplate... but it looks so well built there's minimal reasons not to do it! Shame I'm in Les Arcs this summer instead!
Yeah it does look nice! It’ll still be there next year! Be sure to check out Meribel and surrounding resorts if you’re out that way !
Thanks mate. There in a couple of weeks. Hope it's open.
Opened today ! Enjoy my good man! 👊🏼🤟🏼
hey brother, love your videos! me and a friend will be in chatel from the 24th, would be sick if you were around for a couple rides =D
Thanks mate for the offer, I won’t be in the PDS then I’m afraid. Defo shoot me a message though if you’re around the south of the U.K. sometime or join us for a trail hub group ride later this year. Details on my website 🤟🏼👍 Have a great trip! Go easy on the Chanada trail in Chatel! 😅😜
Sick!!!!! Can’t wait!
Enjoy! It looks so good!
jamie can we get a vid of what the pleney looks like now aswell
Hey Nick, unfortunately not as I’m back in the U.K now….. the new mid section does look pretty good! Trail was shut when I rode past it.
Have they been building on the the pleney black?
@@stevefox6753yes, a section of pleney black after the tunnel got forested, so they built in a jump line there now instead
@@stevefox6753yeah looks like they had to fell a section of trees and rebuild part of the trail. Some nice senders have been added as far as I’m aware.
Red trail 🥲
A red flow/jump trail was definitely needed in that area. That drop looks sick!
Yes definitely, some of the tables look pretty full on….. surprised this trail isn’t a black tbh. Mega sends to be had!
@@MtbTrailHub That is a UK black trail, no question lol
Would be graded pro line in the UK just because of the road gap 😂
@@AGMTB. Yeah 💯, I recon the idea from the get go was to build a red jump line and then the lads got carried away with the diggers and built some big shit! 😂😂
Thanks for this. Great info. It’s been 12 years since my last visit. Taking my 13 yo lad this time. Hiring a couple of DH bikes instead of taking our enduro bikes. Cannot wait. Maybe I’ll even learn to get some gaps under my belt.
Great stuff, It's changed a bit since you will have last visited but still has the same classic charm! Have a great time!
“Can’t get any rougher” spoken by someone who’s yet to ride Dyfi 😋
I meant......the trail is down to the bedrock so can't get anymore chewed up. If you want rough then nothing beats the Chavannes Red!
❤
Love your vids, keep up the great work. If i want to explore the Ports Du Soleil area (love single track / Berms / table tops etc). The only thing i wont be doing are gap jumps as i’ll end up breaking something no doubt 😆 With the above in mind, would you suggest a downhill or Enduro bike would be best ??
Hey Si, Cheers, Thanks for tuning in! What ever you're more comfortable on really, but let's be honest if you've got a DH bike and you're not taking it to the Alps then you may as well sell it! haha Both bikes are more than capable, DH bike will be easier on tired limbs but more of a slog on the pedal sections......
Do you have a GPX of this loop? Or rough points where you came off the PDS. Off there end of the month and this is the of big mountain adventure i am after. 👏🏼 class video.
Hi Richard, Unfortunately not, the PDS add on segments in this video are now claimed by walkers trails, there are now also no bikes allowed signs up top. There is a great back country descent down into Samoens from the top of Les Gets, I'd look into getting a guide and trying that for the day. We went with MCF in Les Gets and they were brilliant. Have a great trip!
French Alps tour is ace 😂
It sure is!! this years trip can't come soon enough!
Thanks for the video! Im not comfortable with jumps or drops yet so its great to see what I can ride and have fun on.
You're most welcome! There's some nice flow trails there with great progression for when your ready to step it up! Thanks for watching!
Hi buddy I'm going there soon, can you please share GPX routes if possible Thanks in advanced!
Sorry for the late reply.......I don't have the GPX I'm afraid, If you message Andy from Ride Southern Spain he may be able to do you some uplifts. He is the man to chat with!
@@MtbTrailHub can you give me his Instagram @ or some other contact please
@@MtbTrailHub do you have any contact of Andy? How can I reach him?
Les Arcs Definitely No 1. See you there in August 2024
It is prime! looking forward to getting back there soon!
Pronunciation guide for our English friends: Twrch = Say the work Turk or 'too-erk' and it's mostly right. Unless you can pronounce the Welsh CH, which doesn't sound like the CH in Church... Cafall = Cav-ath. Unless you can pronounce the double L, cav-ath is near enough there. Pwca = Poo-Ka Cwm Carn = Kum (like the first bit of Kumbaya) Karn.
I just want to ride bikes! haha Genuinely though, thanks for this breakdown
Great videos! Im heading there last week of june and first week of july. We will be going by van and i have a tent. I noticed campings are only open in summer. How´s the policy regarding setting van and tent up somewhere in nature? You think we´ll manage to find anything there end of june?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed them! By end of June all/most of the sites should be open. They can be pretty hot on people wild camping in car parks etc. They don't like people pitching tents but if you can stay in the back of the van then you stand more of a chance of not being moved on. As a last resort If the campsites are still closed, Your best bet would be the Ardent cable car car park or Linderets car park. You may get away with evening arrival and early morning tear down but don't quote me on that. p.s Les Gets (La Frene) campsite is the best in the PDS!
Looking to go here! I am happy to arrange myself. I got quoted at £3k for 4 nights and 4 days including accom, lift pass and bike hire. Is that normal? Looks good out there.
Hi Jack, That sounds very expensive. You could easily do it for under half that. Shoot me over an email with your details and i'd be happy to steer you to a cheaper option. mtbtrailhub@gmail.com
